Goddamn that metal section holy shit. Amazing take on an amazing song

I think you're on the right track here, the production is pretty clean so good job with that :) though I think you need to work on some things. Your melodic sections are really empty, some bass, a moving rhythm, and some chords in the background could really help you out a lot. The drops sound pretty good but I think you're using that roaring bass WAYYY too much. It doesn't really help that it's a pretty static sound, and that it's just playing quarter notes. I'd really consider taking the extra step to design sounds with a lot of movement, as well as creating more interesting drop rhythms. Other than that though this is cool!

Darkendersofficial responds:

Thanks for the feedback! also, a LOT of people have said this about my basses and i'm working on improving.

The ideas are all good, but the mixing feels really wet which for me is taking away some of the power in the drop. It's pretty cool tho!

FelixZophar responds:

I don't think it's that wet.

Lot7even responds:

i can see that, thanks

Not bad, tho it’s a little overwhelming with the volume at parts. I totally see where you’re getting at with this tho, keep up the good work!

I see a lot of potential in your stuff, I like where your style is going. I think there’s a couple things that you could add/fix that would instantly make your music a LOT better.
Firstly I’ve noticed a real lack of bass, especially sub bass in your tracks. Dubstep is a genre that’s really reliant on bass, so make sure you’re really filling up that frequency spectrum.

Secondly, something I’ve noticed with my OWN tracks is that using higher quality drum samples makes your track sound instantly more professional. If you’re trying to go for a Derpcat/Xtrullor type sound, listen to the type of kicks and snares they use, then download some free sample packs and find what sounds the most similar. I’ve spent a lot more effort trying to find high quality drum samples in my latest WIP and it’s really payed off.

Next, this style is really reliant on emotive composition, which isn’t really that present in your music. If your ear is good enough, try noting the different chord progressions that your inspirations use. Something I think would help you a lot is just having sessions where you just make random chord progressions and melodies. You can send me WIPs anytime and I’ll give some feedback :)

Lastly I’m finding that your sound doesn’t have much movement to it. Your drops are kinda like kick - snare - kick - snare sidechaining some chords, which can work in certain scenarios but generally you want some rhythmic variation, maybe add some auxiliary percussion in there, or some arpeggios? Anything to make it more interesting rhythmically works.

Overall I see the progression you’re trying to make and I’m into it! Keep it up, and keep learning :)

Also I’m sorry but I can’t hold it in any longer making an entire different alias just for literally the same music but in D minor or F minor with vocoded basses is ridiculous lmao, unless you want to make Xandrum a huge departure from your Telaris stuff... can you just keep it as one alias?

Telaris responds:

Probably will make my other alias different from this one, IDK I just felt like doing this...

Most of it is great but dude that electric guitar is WAYYY too loud and distorted.

Xandrum responds:

Agreed... Besides from it being disorted, I kind of like it that way.

I'm liking the composition and ambiance but in the drop I'm finding your kick and snare are really thin, especially your snare. When making DnB I'd suggest choosing a more impactful snare sample, and a thicker kick. I also recommend using lots of auxiliary percussion like hi hats playing a fast, syncopated rhythm to really drive across that "fast" feel. Lastly in general I feel like the track as a whole needs some more sub bass. Overall I like the feel you were going for but there's some work needed to make the drops more interesting.

My god this composition is just chilling... really nice job!

This is really pretty dude! Nice job :D

WolfgangMiakoda responds:

My thanks for the kind words. I'm glad people seem to enjoy this one. 'Twas somewhat daunting to put it out there, but I'm glad it seems to have paid off. :)

You've got insane talent man.
